Background

The Faculties of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany (UDE), University of Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and University of Indonesia (UI) have cooperated with each other since several years. The partnership allowed the implantation of a successful students and staff exchange, the evolution of joint research projects and the implementation of Double Degree Programmes at Bachelor and Master levels.

The University of Parma is connected to the University of Duisburg-Essen by student exchange under the SOKRATES programme of the European Commission. By joining as a partner for the development of EACTS, the University of Parma is integrated in the partner network and activities of UDE, UKM and UI.


Universität Duisburg-Essen (UDE)

Location: Germany, North-Rhein Westphalia, Duisbug and Essen

The first university in Duisburg was founded as early as 1655. In 1818, the University at Duisburg was dissolved in favour of the newly founded university in Bonn, and re-opened in 1972, as a Universität-Gesamthochschule. On January 1st, 2003 the two universities of Duisburg and Essen were merged into one legal entity.

In the advent of this merger, the Faculty of Engineering has been established as a highlight of the Duisburg campus, a faculty with international recognition in research and teaching. In particular the emphasis of the Faculty of Engineering on international co-operation and focus on international degree courses is a major step in the ongoing process of reforms at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Universitas Indonesia (UI)

Location: Indonesia, Java, Jakarta (Depok)

UI is one of the most prestigious, academically acknowledged and largest universities in Indonesia located in Depok, a suburb of Indonesia's capital city. There are 13 faculties and over 49 departments spread out in the area of 350 hectares in Depok campus, whereas the old campus in Salemba - Jakarta is used for graduate studies. The faculties are Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medical, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Letter, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Nursing, and Faculty of Graduates.

The Faculty of Engineering (FTUI) has grown into a level of maturity since its inception in 1964. The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the departments in the Faculty of Engineering. Currently, there are 48 permanent teaching staffs employed in this department. The Department has total enrolment of around 700 students. There are 7 laboratories in the department, namely Electrical and Electronic Measurement, Electrical Machinery, Electrical Power System, Electronic, Control, Digital, and Telecommunication Laboratories.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

Location: Malaysia, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (Bangi)

UKM was established on 18 May 1970. The first group of 192 students enrolled for their studies in three faculties (Sciences, Arts, and Islamic Studies). Over thirty years of existence, UKM has matured into one of the most respected universities in Malaysia and the ASEAN Region. UKM now has about 20,000 students enrolled for studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in eleven faculties. The main campus of UKM in Bangi has an area of about 1,096 hectares, and is located about 35 km south of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. In addition to that, UKM has two branch campuses in Kuala Lumpur.

The Faculty of Engineering was established in 1984. The Faculty currently has 107 academic staff members, comprising of 12 Professors, 37 Associate Professors and 58 Lecturers. A total of 18 programs are currently being offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Committee for International Programmes was established to facilitate and coordinate efforts for international collaboration programmes and to spearhead the Faculty towards achieving international recognition.

Università degli Studi di Parma (UNIPR)

Location: Italy, Emilia Romagna, Parma

The University of Parma comprises 10 Faculties, 30,000 students, more than 2,000 academic and non academic staff. UNIPR has strong cooperation activities in the frame of EU projects and other international projects. In this perspective, UNIPR contributes to the he European College of Parma. This is an higher education institution which provides academic training for young European graduates in the field of European Union law, economics and politics.
